Mint Benefits & Uses

Mint originates from a greek work ‘mentha’. Mint is also commonly known as Pudina in Hindi. Mint is a wonder herb that has a distinct aroma and fragrance. The reason for mint being flavored is because of the presence of menthol, which facilitates good digestion.They are low in calories and high in many vitamins and minerals. The oil extracted from mint leaves also has many medicinal healing properties.

Mint Leaves Nutrition:

Mint leaves are rich in minerals and vitamins. Mint contains good amounts of Vitamin A, C, B12, folic acid, thiamine and riboflavin, as well as, minerals such as, calcium, copper, fluoride, iron, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, selenium and zinc.

Culinary Uses of Mint:

Mint is energizing herb that can add distinctive flavors and fragrances to dish. . Mint is used as fresh leaves, paste or in dried form. For most culinary purposes spearmint is the preferred variety. Mint is used in a variety of dishes such as vegetable curries, mint recipe for chutney, fruit salads, vegetable salads, salad dressings, soups, desserts, juices, sherberts, etc

Health Benefits and uses of Mint Leaves (Pudina):

Digestion: Mint is a good appetizer and promotes digestion, due to its typical aroma. It also soothes stomach in cases of indigestion, inflammation etc.

Nausea & Headache: The strong and refreshing aroma of mint is an excellent and quick remedy for nausea. Whenever you feel it, just smell the oil of mint or crushed fresh mint leaves or use any product with mint flavor. Balms based on mint or simply mint oil, when rubbed on forehead and nose, gives quick relief in headache.

Stomach aches and indigestion: Collect 30 fresh mint leaves, 3 black peppers, half table spoon of black salt, 1/4th tablespoon of fried cardamom (elaichi) seeds powder, 2 gms of tamarind paste (without seeds). Mix all these ingredients in a glass of water and cosume it thrice a day. This will clear all stomach and intestines related problems.

Asthma: Regular use of mint is very beneficial for asthma patients, as it is a good relaxant and gives relief in congestion. But, over dosage may irritate as well.
